How to manage your AC temperatures for reduced electricity bills?

The temperature fluctuates every season, and you start wondering the ideal temperature at which you should operate your central AC. But, to determine this answer, you need to consider a couple of factors. First, you have to decide what is more critical- lower electricity bills, comfort, or a balance between the two. Other things that contribute to making this decision include the number of people indoors, external factors like humidity, the number of windows in the house, and the amount of direct sunlight you get. To help you out with this, we have some advice. Have a glance!

How can you maintain the temperature at your home?

Here are some tips that will help you in maintaining the ideal temperature at home-

  1. Set your thermostat at 78 degrees when indoors-

During summers, you want to keep the central AC consistently on because of excessive heat. To ensure that you do not end up with high electricity bills, you should set your thermostat higher than normal when you are away and at 78 degrees Fahrenheit when you are home. If you still feel too hot, you should try reducing the temperature by one or two degrees.

2.  Don’t make changes for quick cooling-

Another habit you should try controlling is setting the thermostat on a colder setting for instant cooling. It is so because your AC is not going to cool any quickly this way. It will work at the same rate and take longer to reach the lower temperature. In the long run, the extra time will result in unnecessary expenses. A better alternative is to get a programmable or smart thermostat. It will automatically raise the temperature when you are away and reset it by the time you return.

3.  Perform regular maintenance-

You should do regular repair and maintenance work if you have an AC at home. It enhances the system’s efficiency and ensures fast cooling. It is so because a dirty and clogged air filter can restrict air circulation and put extra strain on the fans and motors. Also, you will have to keep your AC on for far too long to manage the temperatures in this case.

4.  Turn on the ceiling fan-

For cooling your room, you can use some simple tips as well. One such piece of advice is to increase the airflow in the room by turning on the fan. It will make you feel cooler and more comfortable. Additionally, you can close your window curtains during the day, turn off AC and open doors and windows at night, use weather stripping at doors and windows to seal comfort, and avoid using heat-generating appliances like ovens during the day for maintaining the temperature.

So, it is necessary to find a balance between comfort and expenses when it comes to maintaining the temperature at home. Setting the thermostat at 78 degrees when you are in, increasing temp when you are away, turning on the ceiling fans and performing regular maintenance are some tips that you must follow.
